Scottish Championships - Grangemouth
12:00AM 01-Jun-2007
Focus WTF Taekwondo have returned triumphant again from this years Scottish Championships held in Grangemouth sports centre, clubs from England, N-Ireland and Scotland competed to win the coveted titles of Scottish Champion. Focus WTF Taekwondo sent a team of 16 players to the event. Students could compete in Full Contact Olympic style Sparring and /or patterns where the student performs a set of movements incorporating the striking and blocking moves learned in taekwondo. Last year Focus Tkd earned third place team, this year they were fortunate to move up the team ladder to second place. The students have been working very hard for this event and the inclusion of Competition specific sparring class and patterns class where a student of any grade can learn patterns up to 4th dan level has helped make the medal haul from this event possible. Mark Russell, Chief instructor from Focus Tkd had this to say, “ Having one of our students representing Great Britain at this years world championships in China has helped our students realise that their dreams can become reality and I have noticed an increase in focus and determination in all our students. Competition is a small part of what we do here at focus but it is an important part for those students who hope to follow Louise Mairs footsteps and represent Great Britain and hopefully one day go to the Olympics. Louise Mair has just returned to Focus after being the first Scottish person ever to represent Great Britain at the senior world championships. Louise, 18 fought in the -47kg senior female division. She was unfortunate to meet probably the best player in her division in her first match- China. Louise went into the fight prepared for a battle as she has fought with this girl before on her first trip to china for training. Louise knew she would have to keep focused- after the three rounds Louise only lost 2-0. the Chinese girl went on to become the 2007 world champion!!! Congratulations to louise for attending such a prestigous event and doing so well at a competition of this scale.

12:29AM 03-Oct-2006
sunday 1st October- 10 students woke to the thought of going through a BTCB black belt testing, the day before the grading the students attended 4hrs of technical seminars ran by Grand Master Park Soo Nam, assisted by Master Ian Lennox 7th Dan and Master Niel Guest 6th Dan. the seminar was attended by over 200 students.
